Boat trip to the island to visit the different altars.
Morning visit to the village and pantheon, Santa Fe de la Laguna is famous on the Day of the Dead for inspiring the village of Disney's film Coco and for its unique tradition of mounting large altars inside homes dedicated exclusively to people who died during the past year.
It is one of the biggest and most spectacular. The graves are completely covered with cempasúchil flowers and thousands of candles. Half of the cemetery adjoins the main street turned into a craft and gastronomic fair, while the interior is deeply and respectfully silent during the evening.
Morelia transforms into a mystical and vibrant setting during the Day of the Dead, where its pink quarry architecture is dressed in the intense orange of the cempasúchil flower, monumental altars and the scent of copal. Its historic squares come alive with artistic rugs, catrina parades and deep candle lighting that honors the memory of the deceased, cementing the Michoacán capital as the perfect cultural and gastronomic starting point to delve into the ancestral traditions of the Purépecha region.
